Guildford Surrey Project
The Project Story
This Guildford, Surrey project focused on transforming the main living space by introducing natural light from above. The homeowners wanted to brighten a large living room that previously felt enclosed, especially during darker months. The solution needed to feel architectural, balanced, and well integrated with the existing roof structure.
The brief centred around creating a lighter, more open atmosphere without altering the character of the home.
What We Had to Solve
Installing multiple roof features always requires careful planning. The main challenge was incorporating three roof lanterns into the roof while maintaining symmetry, structural integrity, and a clean internal finish.
Weatherproofing, insulation, and alignment were all critical, particularly as the living room sits directly beneath the roof. The lanterns needed to deliver maximum daylight while remaining visually subtle from the exterior.
How We Delivered
We designed and installed three roof lanterns positioned evenly across the living room roof. During installation, the existing roof structure was carefully prepared to ensure each opening was properly supported and insulated.
The lanterns were finished with slim, modern frames to maximise glass area and allow daylight to flood the room below. Internally, clean lines and neat finishes ensured the lanterns felt like a natural part of the ceiling rather than an afterthought.
The Final Result
The completed installation completely transformed the living room. Natural light now fills the space throughout the day, creating a brighter, more open feel and enhancing the overall sense of volume.
From the outside, the roof lanterns sit neatly within the roofline, while inside they become a defining architectural feature. The result is a calm, light-filled living area that feels more connected to the sky above and far more enjoyable for everyday living.
