Kensington Project

The Project Story

This Kensington project involved upgrading the windows of a first-floor apartment in a traditional London building. The property sits within a classic brick façade, where maintaining the original character was just as important as improving comfort inside. The client wanted new windows that respected the heritage appearance of the building while solving long-standing issues with insulation, drafts, and usability.

The solution needed to feel authentic from the street but modern and reliable for everyday living.

What We Had to Solve

Working on a first-floor apartment in a period property always comes with constraints. The existing windows were tired, inefficient, and no longer performing as they should, yet any replacement had to stay visually in keeping with the surrounding architecture.

The main challenge was achieving a true heritage look without compromising on modern performance. Glazing proportions, frame thickness, sash alignment, and external appearance all needed to be carefully considered. Access was also limited due to the apartment’s position, meaning installation had to be planned precisely to avoid disruption.

How We Delivered

We supplied and installed heritage-style sash windows designed to replicate the original character of traditional sash windows found throughout Kensington. The new windows feature classic vertical sliding operation, authentic glazing bar layouts, and proportions that sit naturally within the existing brick openings.

From the exterior, the windows blend seamlessly with the building’s period style. Internally, they offer smooth operation, improved thermal performance, and a much tighter seal against drafts and noise. Every detail was measured and installed with care to ensure the windows looked as though they had always belonged to the property.

The Final Result

The finished result preserves the elegance of the original building while significantly improving comfort inside the apartment. The new sash windows enhance natural light, improve insulation, and restore the visual balance of the façade without drawing attention away from the heritage character.

The client now benefits from windows that are easier to use, more energy efficient, and visually appropriate for the area — a thoughtful upgrade that respects both the building’s history and modern living standards.
