London Project
The Project Story
This project involved a third-floor apartment in London, where the client wanted to transform the main living space with a full-height glazed opening. The aim was to maximise light and views while maintaining safety and practicality at height.
The solution needed to offer flexibility, allowing the opening to function as both a wide glazed façade and a fully opening bi-folding door.
What We Had to Solve
Installing large opening glazing at third-floor level requires careful consideration of safety, access, and compliance. The door system needed to open fully when required, while also allowing partial opening from either side for everyday ventilation.
In addition, a balustrade was required to provide fall protection without obstructing views or reducing daylight.
How We Delivered
We installed a full-height bi-folding door system, designed to open in multiple configurations. The doors can fold completely to create a wide open aperture, or be opened partially from the left or right side depending on how the space is being used.
To ensure safety at height, a glazed balustrade was fitted in front of the opening, providing protection while maintaining clear views and a clean appearance. The slim frame design allows the glazing to act as a strong visual feature without overwhelming the interior.
The Final Result
The finished installation transforms the apartment, bringing in natural light and opening the living space to the outside. The flexibility of the bi-folding system allows the client to enjoy the view in different ways, from controlled ventilation to full opening in warmer months.
The addition of the balustrade ensures the space remains safe and compliant, while preserving the open, modern feel of the apartment. The result is a striking, practical solution suited perfectly to apartment living in the city.
